Today Jimmy talks with Nathanael Schulte about how he uses fasting in his daily practice to maintain his health, as well as a practice in his spiritual life. After reading Gary Taubes’ books Why We Get Fat And What To Do About It and Good Calories, Bad Calories and understanding through Gary’s material that when you eat a low-carb diet, you are essentially giving your body the same nutrients as when you are fasting and your body eats its stored fat. This opened the door for Nathaniel to begin experimenting with fasting. He then began understanding that his spiritual life was enhanced through the practice of forgoing food and instead focusing on his relationship with God.

    Loved the show. You guys hit things spot on. Fasting does clear the mind and makes you more receptive to things that are spiritual. I now eat once a day with plenty of water in between. I lose close to .5 pounds a day now. So easy to lose unhealthy thoughts by just fasting. It clears the cobwebs, gives you more time (less work and thoughts about food), saves money, lowers glucose and insulin, and helps make you more obedient to God and yourself, and you slowly make you way to a better figure all at the same time. If we randomly and excessively follow our various appetites you get in trouble quick, spiritually and physically.
    Fasting has become my good friend that is helping me be a better person all around. You get a boost of confidence just knowing that you are able to control appetite. What looks scary becomes second nature and so comfortable.
